This course is an overview of the significance of manufacturing worldwide and the structure of 2.008x, including key topics and a framework for planning manufacturing processes. Topics include machining, including material removal processes and advanced materials, as well as injection molding, thermoforming and sheet metal forming, casting, and additive manufacturing. Quality and variation are discussed using statistical methods, as well as manufacturing cost and sustainability, including energy consumption and the use of robots.
